The first volume of the Gakkou Gurashi! (がっこうぐらし!) manga. It was released on December 12, 2012 in Japanese and on November 17, 2015 in English.
Volume Synopsis[]
As the series began, these characters are introduced: Yuki Takeya (who always has a simile on her face), Megumi Sakura (who is missing, yet called "Megu-nee" by her students), Kurumi Ebisuzawa (who loves shovels), and Yuuri Wakasa (who leads the School Life Club, and nicknamed "Rii-san").
Kurumi's backstory——the philosophy behind why she carries the shovel around with her—was told within this volume. Electricity shortages were expected due to rain, yet the group recovers from their club activities. Megumi explains about an event; in the end, she ceases to exist only for the girls' similes when they graduate. Since it was raining, the School Life Club decides to fly letters via balloons (and a carrier pigeon for Kurumi). Kurumi's pigeon, Hatoko-chan, was spotted by a mysterious girl; of which, ends the volume.
